Software calculators provide an excellent means of performing telecommunications calculations without resorting to the use of printed traffic engineering tables. However, in real-life situations, multiple calculations can be required to reach a meaningful result, upon which an engineering decision can be based.
For example, calculating the bandwidth required through an IP-based network is a two-step process. Firstly, the number of voice paths required must be calculated using a model such as Erlang B. Then, this must be translated into a bandwidth figure, taking the transport and data link protocols into account.
VoIP Select revolutionises the automation of such tasks, because it allows you to design your own calculators by interconnecting pre-defined Calculator Blocks (for example, Erlang B and VoIP Bandwidth). The calculators you build are then automatically stored in a local database for permanent use.
